What is the Tetra CO2 Laser?

The SmartXide Tetra CO2 laser is a fractional ablative laser that causes controlled tissue injury to kickstart the body’s natural healing process and stimulate collagen and elastin production. 

Whether you’re looking for a CoolPeel, want to treat the delicate area around the eyes, or want to fully resurface your facial skin, this laser can do it all.  Our team at Ballert Medical Aesthetics can fully customize treatment for you.

The Tetra CO2 laser is also the only technology that can perform a CoolPeel. The CoolPeel allows you to have a fractional ablative resurfacing treatment with significantly reduced downtime. You may be red or pink for the first 48 hours, but after that, you can fully enjoy the benefits of this unique laser treatment.

Most patients receive a series of 3-4 sessions every 4-6 weeks. Sessions typically take about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Who is a Candidate for the Tetra CO2 Laser?

Most individuals are good candidates for Tetra CO2 laser treatment, but there are a few specifications that can make some people better candidates than others. If you meet any of the following criteria, Tetra CO2 laser treatment may be right for you:

Tetra CO2 Laser Recovery and Results

How long your recovery is depends on the extent of your treatment and if we’re treating the entire face or one small area. You will likely notice some redness for the first few days after treatment, but that will diminish as your skin heals and the cells regenerate.

Some results may show up immediately after treatment, but most results will take three to six months to appear as your skin heals and collagen production increases.

What is the downtime for Tetra CO2 laser?

Downtime for the Tetra CO2 laser varies depending on the intensity of the treatment. A CoolPeel or lighter setting typically involves 3–5 days of redness, mild swelling, and flaking. A more aggressive full resurfacing treatment may require 5–10 days of downtime, during which the skin will be red, swollen, and actively peeling. Most patients feel comfortable returning to normal activities and wearing makeup within 7–10 days, though some pinkness may persist for a few weeks as the skin fully heals.

How many days after a CO2 laser will I see results?

Initial improvements in skin texture and tone can be visible as soon as the skin finishes peeling, typically around days 7–10. However, the full, optimal results from a CO2 laser treatment develop over 3–6 months as new collagen is produced and the skin continues to remodel. Patients often notice their skin continuing to look better and better in the months following their treatment.

When to wash face after CO2 laser?

In most cases, patients are advised to gently cleanse the face beginning the day after their CO2 laser treatment. Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water, and pat the skin dry; never rub. Avoid exfoliating cleansers, washcloths, or any scrubbing motions during the healing period. Your Ballert Medical provider will give you specific post-care instructions tailored to your treatment, so always follow their guidance closely.

Should I moisturize after CO2 laser?

Yes, moisturizing is one of the most important steps in your post-CO2 laser aftercare routine. Keeping the skin hydrated helps protect the healing skin barrier, reduces discomfort and tightness, minimizes peeling, and promotes faster recovery. Your Ballert Medical provider will recommend specific products safe for use during the healing period, such as a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer or healing ointment. Avoid any active ingredients like retinol, acids, or vitamin C until your provider clears you to reintroduce them.
